If you are interested in Yoga, but concerned about whether it is right for you because you have low back pain, this may be just the class for you.
I am an experienced physiotherapist and have been teaching yoga for nearly 30 years.
The course is appropriate for anyone recovering from low back pain or with a chronic history of low back pain/sciatica. There will be a maximum of 10 students to ensure close attention to each person.

The aims of the course are:
  • to restore normal movement, using appropriate yoga postures
  • to strengthen essential muscles that support the body
  • to introduce breathing techniques that promote a healthy diaphragm and pelvic floor, to aid back health.
  • to promote relaxation
  • to introduce self-help measures to maintain healthy habits
  • to have fun in the process!

The course is appropriate for complete newcomers to yoga, as well as those with some experience. Ideally students discover which techniques help relieve their back pain, and help develop a ‘regular exercise habit’. I will encourage each student to have their own personal goal, eg. I want to learn to bend over without pain; I aim to run with less pain. And I will help in that goal as best as I can.

I like to talk to each potential student before the course, and possibly formally assess them before starting the class to ensure I am fully aware of the nature of the back pain problem.
