I became interested in body work therapies following a period of back pain, when a friend recommended that I try Ortho-Bionomy. It was gentle, non-intrusive and effective and I was soon free of pain. I was so impressed that I decided to train as a practitioner, in both England and Switzerland, becoming a member of the Society of Ortho-Bionomy in 1989.
At the same time I trained as a massage therapist, in a number of different techniques, gaining my ITEC certificate in 1988.
To further my skills I trained in The Feldenkrais Method® and became a certified teacher in 1999. This involves working with individuals Functional Integration and groups Awareness through Movement. Feldenkrais uses movement and awareness to help stimulate the brain, reduce muscular effort and improve posture and flexibility.
I then studied Craniosacral Therapy and qualified in 2007. This broadened the ways in which I work, focusing on the rhythms and health of the individual, building resources and helping with overall energy and well-being.
Over the years I have continued my professional development by attending advanced training courses in the above disciplines. Most recently 1 year advanced Feldenkrais training called Working with Children, helping babies and children with neurological problems and brain damage. “By combining attention and movement we activate millions of brain cells” (Anat Baniel). Movement and learning help create new neural pathways.
I can practice these therapies individually or together depending on the needs and requirements of my client.
An important aspect of all my work is being a good listener. By this I mean observing and sensing through touch, and being present for the whole person. People coming to see me have often tried several other therapies without finding relief. A person who feels connected to and heard can respond by releasing, letting go and relaxing.
People come to see me for a variety of reasons: for help with injuries (both recent and long term); aches and pains; muscular spasm, trauma and tension; neurological difficulties; brain damage; birth trauma for both mother and baby; to improve posture; to help balance; reducing stress mental, emotional and physical; tiredness; move freely and improve their health. Clients also come to improve skills and focus e.g. musicians, dancers, actors, teachers, sports activities.
Comment from clients:
“It’s so nice to have no pain, thank-you”
“Feels much better I can move my legs and feet a lot better”
“I’ve been sleeping much better since coming to see you”
It’s never too late to relearn. By reducing excessive muscular effort and letting go of restrictions that cause discomfort and pain, we can find relief and comfort whilst regaining control over our bodies. The ways I work have been designed to develop mind and body in harmony, helping with balance and enriching health and vitality.
