I qualified as a Sports Massage Therapist in 2015 then graduated with a 1st class BSc (Hons) Sport and Physical Activity at Strathclyde University. Currently, I am doing MSc Physiotherapy at Sheffield Hallam university.
Throughout this journey so far, I have seen many ways in which a sports massage and manual therapies can positively affect your physical and mental health. Within my treatments I also encourage living a healthy, active lifestyle.
A sports massage is not limited only to those who do sport or exercise. In fact, many of my clients problems stem from being inactive or not active enough! I treat clients from all walks of life and I will tailor my appointment to your needs.
Low back pain, neck and shoulder tension, headaches and sciatica are some of the most common problems my clients have, commonly work-related whether that be a sedentary desk job, a manual job or a generally stressful job. I have also worked with many musicians, dancers, regular gym-goers and elite athletes.
Alongside sports massage, I also use myofascial release (MFR) techniques which involves alleviating tension, restrictions and adhesions in the myofascia (connective tissue) around muscles, in order to restore balance and function. MFR involves a firm deep pressure and although sometimes can be used interchangeably with massage, MFR targets all fascia, not just those involved in the muscular system.
In terms of what I offer holistically, my most popular treatment is Facial Rejuvenation massage whereby stimulating blood into the facial muscles can leave you feeling very relaxed as well as reduced visibility of wrinkles and create a glowing complexion. Perfect for pampering or to look vibrant before a nice occasion.
Pregnancy massage is also one of my popular treatments, pregnancy is a very precious and special time of your life however, also a very challenging time for your body and I pride myself in ensuring you and your baby are as comfortable and relaxed as possible. Pregnancy massage uses techniques designed not only to release tension and pain you may have but also to decrease some uncomfortable symptoms such as nausea, headaches, an over active bladder or general fatigue. With this treatment no ‘one size fits all’ and I will adapt it to meet whatever needs you might have leaving you feeling relaxed and refreshed afterwards. We will have cosy pillows, relaxing music, maximum comfort and I will ask how the pressure is and ensure it is what you are looking for. Most of the time, you will be lying on your side as we work along your back, neck and shoulders and leg then you will slowly turn onto your other side to repeat this and then if you are comfortable lying on your back we will finish off with a lovely face, neck and head massage. You will leave wishing you didn’t have to!
Anyone can have issues that may need a sports or therapeutic massage so, whether you are looking for a practical sports massage, a deep tissue massage or just to relax, I can adapt my treatment accordingly.
Rebecca was absolutely FANTASTIC. She talked me through everything and we decided a deep tissue massage would be best for my needs. It was amazing ! I would highly recommend Rebecca and I will be returning for future sessions. Thank you! (J.E 12th June 2019)
An excellent treatment. Felt very thorough and especially with the muscle release techniques. Pain was much better afterwards and stiffness in upper and lower body released – still better after 3 days. (C.B July 2019)
Rebecca checked I was OK throughout the massage. Rebecca knows what she is talking about and explained why my body was reacting the way it has been. R Spencer ( May 2019)
Heavenly! Rebecca took the time to listen to what was bothering me with muscle tightness and then really worked those sore points. Great pressure and also very relaxing, Thank you. K Harbourne (May 2019)
